Marquez the Greatest – “Under the Influence”

Marquez the Greatest was selected as a stage name because it states who he is and what he desires to achieve — greatness. Like all those who have made their life’s work synonymous with their names, Marquez views his work as more than a job, but a calling.

Originally from Los Angeles, Marquez began performing stand-up comedy with one simple goal in mind — to make people laugh. One night after a show, a man came up to Marquez and said “I planned on committing suicide, but you made me laugh so hard and realize that everybody’s going through something.” That’s when it became clear that the real reason people come out for entertainment is for a mental break from their “problems” i.e. “LIFE”. As a result, Marquez’ work has evolved into a hilarious, philosophical journey through which the pain of life generally and his life specifically is turned into the healing balm of laughter, and his mission (which he chose to accept), is to shed the Light of Laughter upon those in the darkness of depression and disappointment.

With the potential of Marquez’s potency being recognized, he remains firmly planted in the L.A. sun under the Hollywood stars and continues to crystallize. The influences of Muhammad Ali and Richard Pryor are detectable but the Greatest’s brand of humor is all his own.
